DES Boxcar Evans 50ft All Door ATSF V3

Boxcar Evans All Door Lettered for ATSF Santa Fe with ARN.

The Evans all-Door Box Car was seen by many lumber companies and railroads as the better way to load, protect and transport product by rail. Three doors on each side raised up and out of the way making it much easier to load and unload than standard 50ft single and double door box cars and gave the product much more protection than an open flat car. Southern built the first one ever, a car that was designed to combine ease of loading usually found only in an open car with the protection afforded by a closed box car. Aluminum doors rool up out of the way at the turn of a wheel and the doorposts can be slid aside quickly. With the entire side open, long packages or heavy, bulky pieces of machinery can be loaded or unloaded rapidly with fork lifts and other mechanical handling equipment.
