PRPX Baggage-Dormitory Car #105 'Gregory Kamholz
PRPX Baggage-Dormitory Car #105 named Gregory Kamholz. Reskinned by Benthetrainkid from built in ATSF Streamlined Coach Car.
Original model by Auran.
Built in 1948, this Pullman Sleeper Car was designated as NYC 10442, the 'Great Peconic Bay'. It had 22 roomettes and was used on the New York Central Railroad. Ten years later, it was sold to the Canadian National, where it was designated as CN 2063, the 'Valjean'.
In 1977, it was converted into a baggage/dormitory car, and renumbered to CN 9477, and in 1990, it was removed from service.
In 2003, the Pacific Railroad Preservation Association acquired it and was designated it as PRPX 23. All but two of the remaining roomettes were removed and this car is now used this as a crew car. It also carries maintenance tools, which allowed us to perform work on the engine while away from home.
In 2019, the car was renamed to Gregory Kamholz and renumbered 105.
SUPER CHIEF
The Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe railroad launched the first streamlined Super Chief in 1937 with lightweight, fluted stainless-steel cars built by the Budd Company. Hauled by 6000hp ABBA F7 sets, the extra fare train made the journey between Chicago's Dearborn Station and Union Terminal in Los Angeles in 39 hours and 45 min.
The Super Chief was North America's most famous passenger train, with luxuriously appointed conveniences including dining cars operated by Fred Harvey.
The last ATSF operated Super Chief, train #18, arrived in Chicago on Sunday, May 2nd, 1971; when the railroad
reluctantly handed operation of the streamliner to AMTRAK. In 1974, Santa Fe concluded that the operation
of the Super Chief under it's new owners was of a much lower standard, and asked AMTRAK to remove the name from
their Chicago - Los Angeles service.
