CNJ/Lehigh & New England Hancock 3 Chime Whistle V2

The famous Blue Comet passenger train, operated by Central Railroad of New Jersey from 1929-1941 was pulled by a small fleet of three G3 class 4-6-2 Pacifics built by Baldwin in 1928, fitted with Hancock-like long-bell 'steamboat' 3 chime whistles. The Lehigh and New England railroad used whistles similar to the CNJ's long-bells, likely acquired second hand or built copies of the whistle design. In late 2017, a L&NE 3 chime was used on CNJ 0-6-0 switcher #113 when she hauled the Anthracite Heritage Express on the Lehigh Gorge line. The L&NE long-bell 3 chime is the closest in existence to the memorable sound of the Blue Comet's whistle.
