Southern Pacific 6 Chime Whistle and Bell
The Southern Pacific Lines were well known for their mellow shop-made 6 chimes and Star Brass short-bell 'Desert' 5 chimes. Originally intended for larger locomotives, the 6 chime became more commonplace on the Espee following WWII. This is a recording of an authentic 6 chime whistle taken off of GS-4 4449's sister locomotive 4450 before she was scrapped. Reading & Northern 425 wore the whistle during the 2018 holiday Season, when she handled the annual Santa Trains. The bell is also an authentic appliance from transition-era Southern Pacific.
