ATSF 5 Chime LM192 Freight Whistle

Ever since the late 1800's, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railroad had used a brass flat-top 3 chime as their main steam whistle. In the 1910's, all new classes of locomotives as well as rebuilds were instead being fitted with new 5-chime steptop whistles manufactured by the Locomotive Finished Material Co., or LFM of Atchison, KS. There were two types of 5 chimes used by the Santa Fe, an LM-191 5 chime for passenger work and the LM-192 short 5 chime was fitted on freight and switcher engines. Notable survivors of the LM192 are 4-8-4's 3751 and 3759, the former eventually having her whistle swapped with an LM-540 6 chime, which was standard for all new ATSF classes and rebuilds after 1931. ATSF Texas 5000 'Madame Queen' mave have been retrofitted with the first LM-540 6-chime. This was recorded at Pawnee, OK around 2008-2009. A three-part hornsound.
