MAS 17 Gallon Conical Milk Churn Dumpy
Until the 1930s, the 17 gallon conical milk churn was the standard receptacle for transporting milk from farms to stations and thence to towns and cities. There were three variations in height and diameter, though all held 17 gallons, and must have been a pig to move when full! There's a photo of the Hammersmith and City Lines platforms at Paddington in around 1900 with scores of them awaiting onward transport to their final destination. Here's a dumpier one, for variety.
