V & T Mail & Baggage No. 2 1872-1874

Virginia & Truckee Mail & Baggage No. 2 as-built 1872-1874
Built by Kimball Manufacturing Company of San Francisco; Mail & Baggage No. 2 was part of a four-car set delivered to the V&T August 1872 and put into work on the unfinished Reno branch.
Once the branch line was completed, these 4 cars saw heavy service running between Reno and Virginia City.
After two years of hard use, the 4 cars were heavily rebuilt by the V&T. At this time; Mail & Baggage No. 2 received air brakes and a coupola.
Periodic upgrades and repaints (and mail compartment reconfigurations) continued until it was finally taken out of service in 1931. In 1936, the car body was sold locally and put on the ground as a residince - where it remains today.

This model depicts Mail & Baggage No. 2 as it might have appeared from 1872 until its rebuild in 1874.
